Wintercoats: “Working on a Dream”
Melbourne, Australia is home to solo artist Wintercoats, whose latest single, “Working on a Dream,” is a tight package of strings, gliding atmospheric, and things that might be strings that seems at once built for the departure of summer here in the Northern Hemisphere and its pending arrival in the Southern Hemisphere, where this song finds its origins. Brendan Canty and Conal Thomson‘s video mirrors this energy, with vibrant greens, neon paper boats, and a child adventurer standing in for the instruments, while the arrangement compounds itself in a very deliberate way that gives that carries the song nicely, even after most of the instrumentation has been stripped away. Remixers beware: by leaving the organic feeling of the strings intact, this track crafts its own sense of space and mood, even without 808 samples, layers of reverb, etc. In case of pensive mood, break glass and administer directly to ears.
