Taquwami: “2 Luv Again”

One of the more exciting music scenes in Japan today has found a home in INNIT, an Osaka-based party aimed at bringing together electronic music producers from around the country together.  In advance of the event’s next installment on July 1, they’ve put together a mix featuring tracks from artists set to perform there, including Avec Avec and Seiho, who also record together as Sugar’s Campaign, whose cola commercial-esqe video you may remember from earlier this year. One of the highlights of the set is “2 Luv Again” by Tokyo’s Taquwami, who is a new addition to the INNIT scene after spending the last few months flooding the web with his own introverted dance jams.  Whereas most of the INNIT mix leans towards foot moving, “2 Luv Again” shoots for more contemplative space, the beat lingering about rather than thrusting forward.  The best sonic touch, though, is Taquwami’s inclusion of violins, giving the track a fragile emotional edge.  That’s a new touch even for him – the rest of “2 Luv Again” highlights his strengths, like his use of warped vocals and how he mutates the song’s structure over time.  Taquwami’s a great addition to an already fascinating electronic scene.

The next INNIT party is happening 7/1, but even if a ticket to Osaka is out of your price range, you can still get a taste through this mix on Soundcloud
