Pousse Mort: “Electric Funeral”

The sludgy, sequencer-driven slices of doom that Paris’ Pousse Mort has bound together for his latest release, Electric Snake Mutation, can be as challenging to listen to as they are to pin a genre on. That’s neither a diss or a cop out. These supremely heavy tracks draw their fervor from early digital hardcore, their economy of sound from doom, and wink at the “dark”/”cold” pantheon of post-industrial micro genres with both eyes, before headbutting them in their collective nose and receding back into lo-fi fuzz. “Electric Funeral” is notable for its brutal rhythm section and Sabbath-with-a-drum-machine affectation that seems absolutely believable by the time this track emerges. Recommend playing the complete EP through your room mate’s dusty bass amp at odd hours of the night to convince your neighbors that you are having a big, scary party or simply putting on your nice headphones and indulging in some light misanthropy.
