OLGA: “Avalancha de Sonrisas”

Buenos Aires-based duo OLGA’s new video for “Avalancha de Sonrisas” is a visceral accompaniment to the track’s immediately catchy electro-pop bounce. Set to the song’s squelching synths, drum pads, and hand claps, the video’s heroine navigates surreal elements ranging from ominous masked spectres to erotically charged, possibly violent encounters. Co-director Bradley Smith had previously worked on the feature-length film The International Sign For Choking, in which OLGA programmer/guitarist/lyricist Roger Delahaye played a part. For his work on “Avalancha de Sonrisas” –  his first music video – he counts Wim Wenders’ dance documentary Pina as a chief influence. Also notable is Smith’s appreciation of animated GIFs, which can be seen in the quick cuts and repetitious imagery throughout the vid: “We wanted to dive into a dark dreamscape to contrast the deliciousness of the song,” Smith elaborates. True to his description “Avalancha de Sonrisas” is a stroboscopic ride through subconscious realities that serves as a beautiful, albeit uneasy counterpoint to the music of “Avalancha de Sonrisas.”

“Avalancha de Sonrisas” is available now OLGA’s new LP Gracias Tonales. You can hear more from OLGA on Soundcloud and Bandcamp
