nihiti: “sun shatterer”

nihiti shy away from categorization like a vampire from sunlight. Their new record, for ostland, contains disparate elements of  doom metal, post-rock, noise, drone, ambient, and more, unified by a systemically bleak central vision. They’re the type of band often saddled with adjectives like “mysterious” and “unclassifiable”– descriptors that could be could be seen as a cop-out if we were talking about almost anyone else’s music. Yet, as diverse as nihiti’s influences are, “sun shatterer” still stands as an outlier in the soot-covered soundscapes of for ostland. As clearly-intoned lyrics evoke apocalyptic imagery, nihiti sound almost celebratory in the face of imminent doom.

for ostland is out May 27th on lo bit landscapes and New York-based fans can see the nihiti their record release show at 285 Kent on May 31st
