Carcascara: “Aries Resurrection”

Carcarscara Aries Aries Resurrection
The Comfortable On A Tightrope collective from Manchester have been solidly, almost single-handedly, building a DIY community in their fair city for 5 years. They run an eponymous label and earlier this year started a new project called “Birthday Tapes,” a set of 12 cassettes produced to coincide with the zodiac, featuring their friends from across genre and geographical boundaries. “Aries“ seeped into my consciousness not via the Simon Joyner tracks (which are in themselves quite splendid) but through the breath-taking beauty of Carcascara’s two contributions. Carcascara are a trio from the Basque region, a free-floating collective who also play in Cafe Teatro, run the Talo Recordings imprint and produce heavenly, skyward-bound celestial meditations. Their tools are familiar – stringed, bowed, plucked and scraped instruments from around the world – but the trio, consisting of Iñigo Ugarteburu, Xabier Iriondo and Fernando Aguirre, are united in their search for new-dawn wonderment, the dissolution of ego, the formation of a single entity through communal playing. “Aries Resurrection” is a four minute slice of utopia which stretches out to a vanishing point you wish you could reach.
