Black Polygons: “Monochrome”

Parisian serial distortionist Black Polygons has returned with Landscape, a three track EP that expands on his hit and run style of his self-titled releases, choosing instead to more fully explore each motif. While the looming flocks of synth and guitar will be familiar there’s a fresh, more deliberate sense of space and movement that’s more explicitly cinematic. Indeed, the vinyl crackles and evocative swells allude to the poorly restored film scores of Golden Age Hollywood. It all might come across as a bit affected, but that’s part of its own brand of brooding charm, which closing track “Monochrome” has in spades.
