Bam Spacey: “Vi Delar Samma Grav”
Magnus Johansson records under the name Bam Spacey, who you may recognize from his recent remix treatment of fellow Ceremony labelmate Albert Swarm’s gorgeous “Aging Out.” For his debut single, “Vi Delar Samma Grav” (translation: “We Share the Same Grave”), the Malmö-based artist counters icey synths with pillowy vocals as he explores his own minimal techno soundscape. While Bam Spacey’s woodblock percussion hints at the Mediterranean atmosphere that has so enveloped the Swedish pop landscape in recent years, “Vi Delar Samma Grav’s” melancholic synths could never recall any sun-drenched Ibiza resort. It’s telling that the press materials cite Vangelis’ Blade Runner score as an inspiration – a story where human warmth is in constant conflict with the clinical nature of technology. As the repeated phrase “here we are” becomes the track’s melodic heart, it’s clear that while “Vi Delar Samma Grav” has its bleak instances, it’s still about a moment shared.
The “Vi delar samma grav” single, which features an additional track and Saturday (party) and Sunday (hangover) themed remixes, will be available on April 3rd from Ceremony. Watch for more on Bam Spacey’s Land EP, which comes out May 22, 2012
