Balún – Camila

The Brooklyn via San Juan, Puerto Rico outfit known as Balún’s new track, “Camila,” is an amplification of the ideas behind the practically and unconventionally implemented, low bit-driven sound of their first release, Memoria Textil. A frosty cirrus cloud of arpeggios and leads chases itself around a central core of starry-eyed vocals and nonplussed bass. The drums do exactly what drums in dream pop– wow, look at the crazy mishmash of stuff that term can describes– are supposed to do: push things along, while staying out of the way. The complicated relationship among some of the melodic elements lends the track an added sense of delicacy as they gracefully walk the edge of euphony and dissonance. It’s a dense and complex listen that deserves the 5:24 it inhabits. WARNING: may produce happiness. Hope you’re ok with that.
