Algodón Egipcio: “La Transformación”

When the new video for Algodón Egipcio’s “La Transformación” recently debuted on Club Fonograma, it was one of the most purely fun things that we’d come across in some time. Likely conceived as an ode to William Wegman’s classic Sesame Street videos,  the Venezuelan artist enlisted the teams behind Caracas creative houses MOSTRO and Design or Die to achieve “La Transformación,” quite literally.  Rather than lgodón Egipcio mastermind Checky behind the drum pads, it’s the head of an understandably bemused weimaraner that’s been grafted to the musician’s shoulders. Although Cheky has somehow lost his head to a dog’s, our hero still seems happy enough to deliver his synth pop melodies to a balloon-filled birthday – that is, until he realizes no one else is coming to celebrate with him. It’s both Kafka re-imagined with a synth-obsessed Gregor Samsa, and a scenario Wegman’s own weimaraners might well have been caught in. No one showing up to your regular birthday would be bad enough, but in dog years, it’d be heartbreaking.
